Our
Pastor
The Rev. George Kloster is the pastor of St. William Church in Murphy and
Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Hayesville, North Carolina. He also serves as the
Ecumenical Officer for the Charlotte Diocese.
Father Kloster was born in Utica, NY, and raised in Clayton, NC. He graduated from Clayton
High School (1961), St. Mary College, Kentucky (1965), and the Gregorian University, Rome,
Italy (1969). He was ordained a priest in Rome in December, 1968.
Fr. Kloster has served pastoral appointments
in Ahoskie (1969-70), Greensboro (Our Lady of Grace-Associate Pastor 1970-72; St. Pius
X-Pastor, 1979-1988), Gastonia (St. Michael, 1989-1998).
He was a Merrill Fellow at the Harvard Divinity School (Fall-1998), and
Churchman-in-Residence at the Candler School of Theology, Emory University (Spring 1989).
He presently serves on the Presbyteral Council of the Diocese of Charlotte, the Board of
Directors of the Cherokee County United Way, the Advisory Board for the Office of Justice
and Peace of the Diocese of Charlotte, and the Advisory Board for the Office of Economic
Opportunity of Catholic Social Service for the western counties of NC.
Fr. Kloster serves on the Board of Directors of the Ecumenical Institute of Wake Forrest
University and Belmont Abbey College and is a former President of the N.C. Council of
Churches (1986-1988).

Our Deacon
Deacon Carl Hubbell, born
and raised in Michigan, enlisted in the US Air Force after he
graduated from High School. After completion of 20 years of service,
he moved to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and was employed by a
communications company. He began studies for the diaconate program
at St. Vincent De Paul Seminary in Boyton Beach, Florida and was
ordained in 1988 at St. Mary's Cathedral in Miami, Florida. He was
then employed by a local parish for youth and family ministry. He
moved to Murphy in 1998. Married to Carole, they are the parents of
7 children. Carole and Carl are enjoying their retirement years in
the mountains and in ministry at St. William Church. |
